How to Make Friends After Moving to a New City

We understand it can be challenging to leave your old life behind when you move to a new apartment. It often happens for many reasons, but regardless of why you moved, you shouldn’t feel isolated because of it. All of our Metropolitan Flats are located in unique, vibrant cities with much to experience. The easiest way to help with a new transition is to have friends in the city you have moved to. If you are completely new to the city, we have a few easy tips to help you get acclimated and to meet new people.

1. Leave your house

As much as you may love your new apartment and want to stay in it forever, you have to go out of your home at some point. Take advantage of your location. Do some research about what your new city has to offer. In Royal Oak, the downtown area is always bustling no matter what time of day it is. Nightlife is always active. Embrace this by going to check out the scenes. Oxford is quieter with a quaint downtown area. Explore restaurants and shops around your apartment. By simply leaving your place, you open yourself up to meeting new people.

2. Join some clubs

Finding people with similar interests as you will be building blocks to creating friendships. There are social events and clubs in every city. Find one that sparks your interest and research when the next meeting is. If you are passionate about volunteering, the best way to find others that love to volunteer is by volunteering for something. Gyms are a great way to connect with people, too. Find places that have people who may be on your same level and connect with them.

3. Find a new job

Sometimes people move because they accepted a new position. If this is you, take advantage of the opportunity you gave yourself. Use your new job to make friends. No one is going to help you get familiar with your new city better than the people who live and work there. If you have not moved because of a new job, maybe consider switching anyways. Sometimes fresh starts can open you up to more opportunities than you could imagine. Finding a new job would allow you to connect with more people.

Moving can be stressful, but Metflats is here to help ease the hassle. We want to assist you in finding your perfect apartment with the style you want and the location you need. Don’t let relocating make you feel isolated. Get out into your community and experience what each of our locations has to offer.
